About Us
visual communication technology organization
VCTO is the Visual Communication Technology Organization at Bowling Green State University. We are a student group on campus dedicated to improving our technical skills, networking abilities, and professionalism in the areas of:
- Print and graphic design
- Video editing and production
- Web and multimedia design
- Photography
Our organization represents a diverse group of students with various skill levels from all majors across campus. There are no dues or any costs involved with being a member of VCTO, and everyone is welcome to join us at our meetings and special events.
Workshops
Throughout each semester, VCTO offers various workshops aimed at improving your technical skills in a specific area. Though the quantity and type of workshops offered each semester may change, the one thing that stays constant is the quality of our workshops. We work hard to find good instructors for our workshops and call upon professionals, educators, and the highest-skilled members of the campus community to help you learn skills that are important to master if you plan on being successful in the realm of visual communication.
Locations and dates for our workshops vary. Check our Events page for listings.
Meetings
Our meetings are unique from other organizations in that they allow you to choose what part of visual communication you want to focus on and develop your skills in. During each meeting, we split into five different focus groups representing the four areas mentioned above, along with another group aimed at introducing first- and second-year members to the core concepts of visual communication.
Each focus group is led by one or more Team Leaders, VCTO members with experience in their chosen focus area. These Team Leaders are chosen through an interview process at the beginning of each new semester, and they are trained to help teach the skills that are needed to complete various projects assigned to each focus group.
We also have Tip N' Trick Sessions during each meeting that teach you how to recreate a cool effect or use a time-saving feature in applications like Photoshop, Illustrator, or Flash. These tips and tricks come especially useful when working on projects of your own, whether they're for class or for clients.
You can join us at our regular meetings on most Mondays at 9:15PM in 127 Tech Building -- but don't forget to check the Events page before you stop out! Sometimes we have special events planned instead of our regular meetings.
